Update of 1 Jan 2010: According to a posting to the Karen & Douglas S. Thom Family Tree , George Prentice is shown as George Prentise, b. c. 1868, Scotland, and d. before 1930 in Salt lake City, Salt Lake Co., UT. His name was a common one and there are at least 2 men of that name, b. c. 1868 in the 1881 Scotland census who do not appear in the 1891 Scotland census:
  • George Prentice, b. c. 1868, Glasgow, son of George Prentice, b. c. 1832, Glasgow, and
  • George Prentice, b. c. 1869, Dalserf, son of George Prentice, b. c. 1839, Dalserf.

They may not have had children as they are shown in the 1920 census only with 2 nephews in the household: (1) Horace Critchlow, b. c. 1907 and (2) John M. Critchlow b c. 1908. Not in 1930 census.



1. George Prentiss was b. c. 1868 at an unknown location. The 1910 Salt Lake City, UT, census says he immigrated to the US in 1886, He is not in the 1900 census, and first appears in Uintah, Weber Co., UT at the time of his marriage.

He m. Mary Uintah Critchlow apparently after 1910 as he is shown as a single boarder in the 1910 Salt Lake City census. . Mary was b. 15 May 1875 in Uintah, Weber Co, UT, and d. 25 Jan 1955. She was the dau. of John James Critchlow (1817-1884) and Mabel Mehitable Ayers (1831-1913). Ancestor charts for Mary can be found at Ancestry.com .
