Ambrose Prentice of Marston Biggott, Somerset, England

Ambrose Prentice of Marston Biggott, Somerset, England
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Fall 2006 and Revised 11 Aug 2006

1. Ambrose Prentice was b. c. 1796 in Cambridgeshire, England. Ambrose appears in the 1841 census in Marston House, Marston Biggott, Somerset, England, with a large number of men and women, all apparently unmarried.

Ambrose then appears in the 1851 census as an unmarried 55 year old Butler in the home of Edmund Earl of Cork, St. George Hanover Square, Middlesex.

Although the name is the same, there appears in the 1861 St. George Hanover Square census a female Ambrose Prentice who was b. c. 1801 in Dalhard, Suffolk, and whose occupation is given as "formerly Servant." However, in the 1871 census in St. George Hanover Square, "she" becomes a male and a "Lodger."

So, perhaps, the 1796 Ambrose Prentice is the same person as the 1801 he/she Ambrose Prentice.
