Update of 14 Aug 2008: William Prentiss is the son of William Prentiss and Abigail Lewis and a descendant of Henry Prentice in our Henry Prentiss eBook.

1. William Prentiss was b. 5 Aug 1807, Cumberland Co., ME. He appears in the 1850 census in Jamaica, Queens, NY with his wife and family.

He m. Angeline/Angelina Hunt, b. c. 1811, ME. Children:

  1. Caroline Prentiss, b. c. 1835, NY.
  2. William Prentiss, b. c. 1836, NY.
  3. Augusta/Agusta Prentiss, b. c. 1837, NY.
  4. Angeline Prentiss, b. c. 1838, NY.
  5. Elizabeth Prentiss, b. c. 1839, NY.
  6. Anna Prentiss, b. c. 1842, NY.
  7. George Prentiss, b. c. 1843, NY. . . . . . . [2]
  8. Jane Prentiss, b. c. 1845, NY.
  9. Daniel Prentiss, b. c. 1847, NY. Not in 1860, 1870 or 1880 census.
  10. Jesse Prentiss (son), b. c. 1849-50, NY. Not in 1860, 1870 or 1880 census.

A check of the 1880 census does not show William.

2. George Prentiss, b. c. 1843, NY. Although the birth year is different, he is almost certainly the George H. Prentiss, Broker, b. Nov 1845, NY whown in the 1880 and 1900 NYC, Kings Co., NY census whose parents were both born in ME. Also shown is his wife, Caroline Edwards, b. Jun 1853, NY. She is the dau. of Sylvester and Caroline Edwards whose home George and Caroline were residing in the 1880 census. Children of George and Caroline:

  1. Russell E. Prentiss, b. Apr 1874, NY, and at home in 1900. . . . . [3]
  2. Maryane L. Prentiss, b. Aug 1882, NY, and at home in 1900.

3. Russell E. Prentiss, b. Apr 1874, NY, and at home in 1900. He appears in the 1920 Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY census with his wife, Adella, b. c. 1877, NY. They are 45 and 43 respectively and probably did not have any children as none are shown.

Russell and his wife later appear in the 1930 Manhattan, New York Co., NY census, again with no children shown.
