The following is based on an obituary published in the Ames (IA) Tribune of 13 Jan 2004, the SSDI and the California Death Index.
1. Rollan "Jay" Prentice, perhaps b. c. 1953. A 2004 directory search shows his address as 1327 Clark St., Des Moines, IA, 50314-1914, Tel. (515) 282-6387.
Rollan m. Beverly Nelson in Des Moines, IA on 13 Jul 1974. Beverly was b. 1 Mar 1952, Story City and d. 10 Jan 2004, Mercy Medical Center Des Moines, IA. Daughter of John Nelson and Velma Hanig. She formerly lived in rural Boone, IA. Beverly graduated from Roland Story High School in 1971. She was a certified nurse's aide and worked at the Ramsey Home in Des Moines for more than 21 years before retiring due to health reasons. Funeral services held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone. After cremation, graveside services and burial 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery near Gilbert. Children:
- Stephen Prentice, b. c. 1979. In 2004 lived in Lakewood, WA.
- Jolene Prentice. In 2004 lived in Des Moines.
Surviving Beverly were her father, John Nelson of Marshalltown; five brothers, Dale and Dean Nelson, both of Roland, Wesley Nelson of Ames, Doug Nelson of Nevada and Dan Nelson of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Sharon Beach of Marshalltown, Connie Patten of Boone and Deb Disbrowe of Des Moines; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother; two sisters; and one brother.
Rollan Prentice may, or may not, be a son, or, more likely, a grandson of John O. Prentice, b. c. 1895, KS (his father was b. in IL and his mother in KS), who appears in the 1930 Des Moines census with his wife, Hester G. Tucker, b. c. 1895, MO, with their children:
- John Owen Prentice Jr., b. 27 Jan 1918, MO and d. 24 Mar 1982, age 64, in Edwards, Kern Co., CA (per census, SSDI and CA Death Index).
- Robbin G. Prentice, b.c. 1922, MO.
John O Prentice is a descendant of Thomas Prentice of Newton, MA.
