1. John Prentice was b. c. 1840 in GA, as were his parents. Not in the 1850, 1860 or 1870 census. He does not appear in the 1900 census. He appears only in the 1880 census in Dist. 5, Giles Co., TN with his wife and children:
He m. Louisa, b. c. 1840 in GA, as were her parents. Both had moved to TN by 1859 when their first child was born. Children (per 1880 census):
- Sallie Prentice, b. c. 1859, TN.
- Susan Prentice, b. c. 1862. TN.
- Rebecca/Rebeca Prentice, b. c. 1875, TN.
- Frances Prentice, dau., b. c. 1877, TN.
Given the age gap between Susan and Rebecca, there may have been additional children who married or died young.
Also shown living with the family in 1880 were the following persons who were identified as nephews to John Prentice:
- William Prentice, nephew, b. c. 1864, TN. Both parents b. in GA.
- C(illeg.) Prentice, nephew, b. c. 1868, TN. Both parents b. in GA.
- Alfred Prentice, b. c. nephew, 1871, TN. Both parents b. in GA.
- Frank Prentice, b. c. nephew, 1874, TN. Both parents b. in GA.
For now, all we know is that the 1880 Giles Co., TN census says that both his father and mother were born in GA.
