1. James J. Prentiss was b. c. 1893-4 in NY. He appears in the 1920 and 1930 Buffalo, Erie Co., NY census with his wife, Mary Wartinger, b. c. 1893-4, NY, and children:
- James Prentiss, b. c. 1915, NY and at home in 1930. He d. bef. 2004
- Charles Prentiss, b. c. 1916, NY and at home in 1930. He m. Dorothy and d. bef. 2004.
- Joseph Prentiss, b. c. 1918, NY and at home in 1930. He d. bef. 2004.
- William Prentiss, b. c. 1925, NY and at home in 1930. He m. Patricia.
- Bernard Prentiss, b. c. 1921 and at home in 1930. . . . . . . . . . [2]
- Mary Jane/Josephine Prentiss, b. c. 1927 and at home in 1930. She m. Donald Crissy
Also living with them in 1920 was William Long, brother in law, b. c. 1887, NY, and Julia Long, sister in law, b. c. 1895, NY.
2. Bernard Prentiss, b. c. 1921 and d. 28 Apr 2004, Buffalo, NY. He. m. Frances A. Furioso. He was an Army Veteran of WW II, saw combat at the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, and was a member of UAW Local 846. Funeral arrangements were by the Lombardo Funeral Home (City Chapel), 102 Linwood Ave. at Summer near Delaware Avenue. Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church at 9:30 o'clock. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery (per his obituary). Children:
- Arthur Prentiss. He m. Mary Ann.
- Bernard Prentiss Jr.
Grandchildren mentioned in Bernard's obituary were grandchildren:
- James Prentiss and his wife, Dorothy.
- Mark Prentiss and his wife, Colleen.
- Lisa O'Connell and her husband, Brian. '
- Anthony Prentiss and his wife, Deborah.
Great-grandchildren mentioned were 11 great-grandchildren, but not by name.
If we hypothesize that James' parents were in Buffalo at the time of the 1920 census, we see a couple possibilities:
- Jerrett Prentiss, b. c. 1850, NY, as were both of his parents. No wife is shown. Children at home in 1920:
- Mary Prentiss, b. c. 1870, NY.
- Albert Prentiss, b. c. 1872, NY. He m. Mary, b. c. 1872, NY and they were were living with Jerrett with
their children:
- Spencer Prentiss, b. c. 1898, NY
- Ruth Prentiss, b. c. 1902, NY.
- John C. Prentiss, b. c. 1858, Canada, as were both his parents. His wife is Jennie, b. c. 1858, New York with both of her parents born in Ireland. They were then both 61 years of age and if they had any children they could have left home by then.
The 1920 Buffalo census also shows a Ralph Prentiss, b. c. 1898, NY, and his wife, Lillian. Ralph might be a brother to James and/or a son of one of the above Prentiss families.
