In our Spring 2000 issue we had an article about Othaniel Prentice of Monroe, Clark Co., IN in which we suggested that his father might be Felix Prentice. This is a follow up to that article.
1. Felix Prentice was b. c. 1780-90 at an unknown location. The name of his wife has not been conformed, but it might be Esther who was b. c. 1785, RI and who appears in the 1850 Monroe, Clark Co., IN census. Clark County lies in southeastern Indiana, just across the Ohio River from Louisville, KY. Felix appears in the 1840 Clark Co. IN census with the following children:
- son, age 20-30 and b. c. 1810-20.
- son, age 20-30 and b. c. 1810-20.
- son, age 15-20 and b. c. 1820-25
- dau., age 15-20 and b. c. 1820-25.
- dau., age 15-20 and b. c. 1820-25.
- son, age 10-15 and b. c. 1825-30.
- dau., age 10-15 and b. c. 1825-30.
- son, age 5-10 and b. c. 1830-35 (might be Othaniel, b. c. 1835, IN, shown with his mother, Esther, above)
Felix does not appear in any 1850 census and may by then be deceased.
The identity of Felix's father is a puzzle. We have searched all our available databases, including the IGI and Ancestry.com, and not found any listing for any Felix Prentice other than in the 1840 census.
