By email of 21 Sep 2004, Christine Hadden brings to our attention the following families:
1. (Unknown) Prentice may have been b. c. 1820-1825 and perhaps in Scotland
He m. Ann, b. c. 1825 in Scotland, and perhaps a widow, appears in the 1880 census in Griswold, New London Co., CT, working in a cotton mill and living with her daughter, Rebecca, and her family. They do not appear in the 1920 census. She had 1 or more children, including:
- Rebecca F. Prentice, b. c. 1850 in Scotland. . . . . . [2]
- (probably) John Prentice, b. c. 1855, Scotland. . . . . . . [3]
2. Rebecca F. Prentice, b. c. 1850 in Scotland. She m. Archibald/Archie Kerr, b. c. 1851, Scotland. They appear in the 1880 census in Griswold, New London Co., CT where he works in a cotton mill. They had 1 or more children:
- Jane Kerr, b. c. 1879, CT. At home in 1880 census.
3. John Prentice, b. c. 1855, Scotland. He appears in the 1880 census in Griswold, New London, CT where he was working in a cotton mill. He m. Betsey, b. c. 1855, Scotland. Children shown in the 1880 census:
- Margaret/Maggie Prentice, b. c. 1875, CT.
- Jane Prentice, b. c. 1878, CT.
Although only speculation at this point, Ann and her husband might be John Prentice and Ann Thomson of Glasgow. They had a son who seems like a good match for Ann's probable son, John Prentice, of Griswold:
- John Prentice, b. 27 Jun 1856, Central District, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland.
