Who are William Prentice's Parents?

Because of the reference to Glasgow, we checked the 1861 census for any William Prentice born between 1853 and 1857. We found only 1 in the immediate area of Glasgow. He was William Prentice, b. c. 1854, Glasgow, and in 1861 living in Glasgow St. David, Lanarkshire.

William was the son of Margaret Prentice, b. c. 1818, Shotts, Lanarkshire, and apparently a widow. Children named in the 1861 census were:

  1. Alexander Prentice, b. c. 1852, Glasgow.
  2. John R. Prentice, b. c. 1848, Glasgow
  3. Robert Prentice, b. c. 1847, Glasgow
  4. William Prentice, b. c. 1854, Glasgow (see above discussion)

Investigation is continuing.
