Original Article: We are helping Glenda Robinson, with the aid of Anna Arrol, in tracing her Prentice family tree. Here is what we have so far:

1.  John Prentice, parents unknown, was born c.1802 at Drayton, Oxfordshire, England.

He married Ann Masters, daughter of Edward Masters and Charlotte Whitehead. She was born c.1809 in Priors Marston, Warwickshire, England.

John died c.1881 in Priors Marston, Warwickshire, England. Ann died c.1881 in Priors Marston, Warwickshire, England.

Child of John and Ann:

  1. William Prentice, was chr. 18 April 1841, Prior Marston, Warwichshire. . . . [2]

2.  William Prentice, the son of John Prentice[1] and Ann Masters, was christened on 18 April 1841 in Priors Marston, Warwickshire, England.

He married, on 13 Oct 1873, to Theodosia Blandford, in Alcester, Warwickshire, England. She was the daughter of John Blandford and Ann Arkinstall, and was born on 2 Jul 1840 in Drayton in Hales, Staffordshire, England. Theodosia was previously married to George Obadiah Soffe.

William and Theodosia immigrated to New Zealand with their combined families on board the "Waikato" arriving in Wellington, New Zealand on 11 Jul 1874. They then took the coastal vessel "Luna" to New Plymouth arriving on 15 July 1874.

Theodosia died on 12 Sep 1883 in Ormondville, Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand, after giving birth to still born twin girls. William died on 21 Sep 1920 in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand.

  2. Thomas Prentice, b. 12 Jun 1875 either in in England or NZ.
  3. May Prentice, b. 1876 either in England or NZ.

3.  William John Prentice, the son of William Prentice[2] and Theodosia Blandford, was born on 21 Jul 1872 in Alcester, Warwickshire, England. Alcester is about 25 miles from Priors Marston.

He emigrated to New Zealand at the age of 3, with his parents and siblings. He spent his entire working life on the wharf in New Plymouth, NZ.

William married Annie Louisa (Jacklin) Wood, dau. of Thomas William Wood and Martha Jane Jacklin. She was born on 24 Oct 1879 in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand. When her mother, Martha, died, Annie was a small child and was raised by her grandmother and took her name. Annie's name on her marriage certificate is given as "Annie Louisa Jacklin."

William died on 16 Oct 1952 in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand. Annie died on 6 Nov 1958 in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand.

  1. Francis William Prentice, b. 8 May 1897. He had 1 or more children, including:
    1. Les Prentice. Children:
      1. Raewyn Prentice. She m. Mr. Ludlam (per Raewyn Prentice, email, 5 Jul 2012).

      3. (son) Prentice. Living in 2012.
    2. Edgar Prentice. He d. 1980. He had 2 children.
  2. Annie Doreen Prentice, b. 14 Feb 1899.
  3. Olive May Prentice, b. 5 Feb 1902.
  4. Rueben Clarence Prentice, b. 24 Oct 1903.
  5. Edgar Thomas Prentice, b. 29 Jan 1905.
  6. Arthur Ronald Prentice, b. 2 Aug 1906.
  7. John Prentice, d. as an infant.
  8. Maurice Victor Prentice, b. 20 May 1909.
  9. Ian Ray Prentice, b. 3 Aug 1913.
  10. Darcy Rex Prentice, b. 2 Apr 1915 and d. 1969. He m. Norah Maude Barnes. They lived in New Plymouth, NZ and are Glenda's grandparents.
  11. Donald John Prentice, b. 1 Apr 1918. . . . . . . [4]
  12. Desma Joan Prentice, b. 12 Sep 1920.

4.  Donald John Prentice, son of William John Prentice[3] and Annie Louisa Jacklin, was born on 1 Apr 1918.

He married, on 6 Oct 1943, to Betty Lily Marks in New Plymouth, New Zealand. She was born on 6 Dec 1922 in New Zealand.

Donald died on 9 Apr 1992 at age 74. Betty died on 27 Dec 2006 at age 84 in New Plymouth, New Zealand.

Children: of Donald and Betty:

  1. Donald Ewen Prentice, b. 14 Oct 1944 in New Plymouth, NZ. He m. on 10 Jan 1970, to Lynette Ellen Humphrey.
  2. Adele Prentice, b. 7 Nov 1953 in New Plymouth, NZ. She m. on 21 Jun 1975, to David Paul Williams.
  3. Jan Prentice, b. 3 Sep 1956 in NZ. She m. on 1 May 1976, to David John William Turner.
