Thoughts While Writing a Newsletter

Thoughts While Writing a Newsletter
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Spring 2001 and Revised 24 Feb 2006

After writing the article in this issue about the Census, I had the following additional thoughts about writing our Prentice Newsletter.

    		Newsletter Thoughts

    We're sending our Newsletter
    throughout all through the land,
    each article finished
    with a caption we've planned.

    We mined from our data
    each name and each birth,
and some deaths and some places,
    of those there's no dearth.

    T'was a long, lonely search
    with many a lead
    that, often we found,
    it was fruitful to heed.

    At times were tired,
and sat back in the chair
    and gave a great yawn
and out the window we'd stare.

    Sometimes we'd nod off
    or go get a drink,
or lie down on the couch,
    the better to think.

    we studied our charts
as we sat at the table,
    and traced all their children
    the best we were able.

We found those who died old
    and pondered their fate,
and of those that died young
    we searched for a date.

    Some lived to a hundred,
    but that's only a few,
    all too often we found
those who died at age two.

    We'd think of those infants,
    and think of their beirs.
    we'd think of their mothers
    and picture their tears.

    When all articles were finished
    and the indexes set,
    we'd upload all the issues
    to Scott's PrenticeNet.

As we turn off the computer,
    we silently pray
for more email and more strength
    to begin the next day.
