Mary Prentiss might be a descendant of Solomon Prentice Jr. (37/37 in our PRENTICE book). He lived with his first wife and family in Alstead, NH where his wife d. in March, 1778. He closed up his affairs there and moved to Edenton, NC where he again married and died there in 1805.

We have no information as to the identity of Solomon's second wife, nor whether he had any additional children born in NC. However, since was only 30 when he moved to NC, it seems likely that he would have had additional children born in NC. We have located two men, both named John Prentice, b. c. 1800 and 1813 respectively in NC. Both are fairly good possibilities to be her father since there were very few Prentices in NC in that time frame.

• The first John Prentice m. Dicy Janes. Er have my information on his f amily from the 1850 census. No daughter named Mary is shown, but Mary's given birth date might be in error and she might have been married and left home by the time of the 1850 census.

• As to the other John Prentice, we have identified a number of his children, but a Mary Prentice is not among them; however, she might be a previously unknown daughter.
