We are helping Hilary Stanton in tracing her Prentice roots. Here is what we have so far:

1. Unknown Prentice was b. c. 1755-66, perhaps in Norfolk Co., England. He apparently lived in Norwich, Norfolk, in 1785 which his son, John, was born and moved to Bury St. Edmunds by 1791 when another son, James, was born. Neither of his sons, below, appear in the IGI. His children included:

2. John Prentice was b. c. 1786 in Norwich, Norfolk, England and d. 1859. He m. Elizabeth Smith in 1816. Their children included:

  1. James Smith Prentice, b. c. 1816-20. He m. Agnes Bullen in Norwich on 7 Jun 1840 at All Saints, Norwich, Norfolk, England. Not in 1881 census.
  2. John Smith Prentice, b. c. 1816-20. . . . . . . . . . [4]
  3. Ann Smith Prentice, b. c. 1825, Norwich. She m. Thomas Keable in 1843, Gravesend, Kent. They appear in the 1881 census living at 6 Arthur Cottage, Gravesend, Kent, England, with their children:
    1. Thomas G. Keable, b. c. 1854, Northfleet, Kent.
    2. Ernest P. Keable b, c. 1866, Gravesend, Kent.
    3. Herbert W. Keable, b. c. 1870, Gravesend, Kent.
  4. Caroline Prentice, b. c. 1827.

3. James Prentice was b. 1791, Bury St. Edmunds and d. 1845. He m. Amy. Children (per IGI):

  1. Maria Sarah Prentice, chr. 8 Mar 1829, Saint Peter Mancroft, Norwich, Norfolk.
  2. Susanna Prentice, chr. 1 May 1821, Saint Peter Mancroft, Norwich, Norfolk.

4. John Smith Prentice, b. c. 1816-20 and d. 1873. He m. Lydia Wiseman in Norwich in 1838. They had 1 or more children, including:

  1. (probably) John Frederick Prentice, b. c. 1839 in Norwich, Norfolk. . . . . . . . [5]

5. (probably) John Frederick Prentice, b. c. 1839 in Norwich, Norfolk, England. He appears in the 1881 census as a Bank Clerk in Hellesdon, Norfolk, England. Also shown are his wife, Elizabeth, b. c. 1842, Uxbridge, Middlesex, and children:

  1. Mary E. Prentice, b. c. 1863, Norwich, Norfolk.
  2. Franklin Prentice, b. c. 1865, Norwich, Norfolk. He was a "Seaman Merchant". He appears, unmarried in the 1901 census in Bootle, Bootle Cum Linacre, as a "Master Mariner Merchant Service"
  3. John Prentice, b. c. 1866, Norwich, Norfolk.
  4. Herbert Prentice, b. c. 1867, Norwich, Norfolk.
  5. Lillian Sophia Prentice, b. c. 1869, North Walsham, Norfolk.
  6. Christian L. Prentice, (dau.) b. c. 1871, North Walsham, Norfolk. Shown in the 1901 census in Norfolk, Blofield, living with her brother, Christian. Her birth place is identified in the census as "Upper Hillerdon".
  7. Frederick Prentice, b. c. 1872, North Walsham, Norfolk. . . . . . . . [6]
  8. Charles William Prentice, b. c. 1873, North Walsham, Norfolk.
  9. Edward Prentice, b. c. 1873, Hellesdon, Norfolk. . . . . . . . [7]
  10. Arthur Prentice, b. c. 1878, Hellesdon, Norfolk.
  11. Hugh Prentice, b. c. 1879, Hellesdon, Norfolk. Shown in the 1901 census in Norfolk, Blofield, living with his sibling, Christian. His birth place is identified in the census as "Upper Hillerdon".

6. Frederick Prentice, b. c. 1872, Nth Walsham, Norfolk. He is almost certainly the Frederick Prentice who was b. 17 Sep 1871 in England and who appears in the 1900 Boston, Suffolk Co., MA census with his wife, Elizabeth, b. 21 Apr 1875, Ireland, and children:

  1. Pearl E. Prentice, b. 22 May 1898, MA.
  2. Franklin J. Prentice, b. 24 Oct 1899, MA.
7. Edward Prentice, b. c. 1873, Hellesdon, Norfolk. He is almost certainly the Edward Prentice, b. 9 Dec 1876, England, who was living with his brother, Frederick, above in the 1900 Boston census.
