Mildred Eva Prentice of Northfield, Washington Co., Vermont
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Winter 2009 and Revised 28 May 2013

1. Justin Prentice was born in Northfield,Washington Co., VT, per the Vermont Marriage Record of his daughter, Mildred. That record did not give his birth year, but was probably about 1875-1885.

He m. Lottie, also born in Northfield acccording to that Marriage Record. Again, no birth year was given but it was probably about 1875-1885. They had 1 or more children, including:

  1. Mildred Eva Prentice was b. c. 1904 in Montpelier, Washington Co., VT. . . . . . . . [2]

2. Mildred Eva Prentice was b. c. 1904 in Montpelier, Washington Co., VT, and was living in Northfield, Washington Co., VT, in 1922 per Vermont Marriage Records . Northfield lies only about 10 miles south of Montpelier on highway VT-12.

She m. Harry Elmer Dewar on 7 Oct 1922 in Northfield, Washington Co., VT. He was a Truckman, b. c. 1904, St. George, NB. He was the son of William M. Dewar (b. St. George, NB) and Alice McVicar (also b. St. George, NB). She may be the Mildred E, Dewar who appears in the 1930 census in Hardwick, Caledonia Co., VT, as divorced with a daughter:

  1. Virginia M. Dewar, b. c. 1925 Vermont. 1930 at home in Hardwick.

Who are Justin Prentice's Parents?

We explored the possibility that Justin Prentice is Justin Belmont Prentice, b. c. 1875 or 1880, Granville, VT. He is a son of #37, Golden Nehemiah Prentice, who appears in our article Fall 1999 article entitled Prentices of the Colnes, England. However, his Granville, VT, birth place appears to exclude him since Justin, Mildred's father, was born in Northfield, VT, per Mildred's marriage record.

Investigation is continuing.
