The 1880 Smith County, TN census contains the following family:
- William P. Prentice, age 42 (b. c. 1838), b. TN.
- Martha L. Prentice, age 48, b. c. 1832, TN.
- Lucy Prentice, age 19, b. c. 1861, TN.
- William J. Prentice, age 16, b. c. 1864, TN.
- John E. Prentice, age 14, b. c. 1866, TN.
- Robert L. Prentice, age 11, b. c. 1869, TN.
- Nettie F. Prentice, age 9, b. c. 1871, TN.
- Martha F. Prentice, age 7, b. c. 1873, TN.
William may be related to Rachel Prentiss who m. Paschal Wright in Smith Co., TN on 14 Dec 1864, roughtly 4 years after his own marriage.
