1. Robert L. Prentice was b. c. 1945-1952, perhaps in or near Detroit, MI, where his wife was born. In 2014 he lived in Traverse City, Michigan.

He m. Kathleen M. Ricke in 1981. She was b. c. 1952, Detroit, MI. She might be Robert's 2nd wife since her obituary mentions, "stepsons Roy, of Novi, and Dave, of Minneapolis." Kathleen's obituary reads as follows:

Kathleen M. Prentice: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice, Traverse City Record-Eagle (MI) - Tuesday, June 10, 2014

TRAVERSE CITY — Kathleen Mary Prentice, 62, of Traverse City, passed away in her home with her family by her side on June 5, 2014, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born and grew up in Detroit, where she attended Immaculata High School and Wayne State University before graduating from the University of Michigan. While at U of M, Kathy wrote for — and loved — the Michigan Daily. Kathy was a journalist for all but a few years of her working life. She often wrote cover stories for the Detroit Free Press Magazine. She was also the first administrator of the Traverse City area Community Coordinated Child Care Council (4C).

In 1981 she married Robert L. Prentice and had two children, Caitlin, of Oxford, England, and Lillian, of New York City.

Kathy loved reading and writing and always had a stack of books and a pen and paper close at hand. She was passionate about politics and social justice and acted on her beliefs globally, nationally and locally. She loved sewing, gardening, traveling, cooking, movies, music, art and theater, and somehow found the time to enjoy them all.

Kathy was a remarkable multi-tasker, researcher and organizer. Like in a "choose your own adventure" book, she thought through every possible contingency of every possible scenario — usually before the rest of us even realized what the issue was. In a single day, she could pitch a story, braid her daughters' hair, complete phone interviews, make dinner, plan a family camping trip, read several bedtime stories, and stay up writing and editing into the wee hours. She was a religious education teacher and board member at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Grand Traverse, where she was instrumental in developing programs for children and, more recently, where she enjoyed being a member of the Peacemakers quilting group.

Although she was an avid traveler and organized trips to see her children wherever they roamed, Kathy loved places close to home best: the Lake Michigan shoreline, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and the peony garden at the Ann Arbor Arboretum.

And although she took the world and its injustices seriously, Kathy knew how to have a seriously good time. She will be remembered for dancing to Motown tunes while doing housework, hosting countless birthday parties, Christmas caroling parties, parties for any holiday or occasion, and for her beautiful 30-inch long hair. She laughed like there was nothing else in the world worth doing, and everyone couldn't help but join in. Kathy lived to care for others — her husband when he got a new hip, her children, other people's children, disadvantaged women and children living anywhere — and eased us into her parting with the same mix of affection and organization that characterized her whole life.

Kathy is survived by her husband and daughters; stepsons Roy, of Novi, and Dave, of Minneapolis; her sisters Susan Cadera, of Barrie, Ontario and Mary (Peggy) Carter of Sacramento; her brothers Tom Ricke, of Chicago, and Bernard Ricke, of Detroit; her cousins Ann Bednar, of Ann Arbor, and Colleen Hyslop, of East Lansing, and many adoring nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and step-grandhildren. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Rebecca Ricke.

An informal gathering celebrating Kathy's life will be held from 2-4 p.m., on Sunday June 15, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Grand Traverse, 6726 Center Road. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Women's Resource Center in Traverse City.

Children of Robert and Kathleen per her obituary, above:

  1. Caitlin Prentice of Oxford, England,
  2. Lillian Prentice of New York City.

Who are Robert L. Prentice's Parents?

Robert L. Prentice is a common name, and probably born after the 1940 census. Investigation is continuing.
