He m. Diane Kay Robertson. Her obituary reads, in part, as follows:

In Memory Of Diane (Kay) Kay Prentice, 21 Jan 1944 - 6 Oct 2012.

PRENTICE, Diane Kay (Kay), formerly Campbell, nee Robertson). Died peacefully on October 6, 2012 in the care of the Otago Community Hospice, New Zealand.

Loved wife of John Prentice, loved stepmum of Damian and Neela and grandchildren Lotika and Orson in England, Kristin and Pete and grandchildren Darcy, Alexander and Jed in Brisbane and Stefan in Wellington.

A service for Kay will be held in Hope and Sons Chapel corner Andersons Bay Road and Oxford Street at 2.30pm on Wednesday October 10, followed by private cremation. In lieu of flowers donation to the Otago Community Hospice would be appreciated and may be left at the service.

Dearly loved mother of Sandra, and Annette, beloved nana of Nicole and Rick, Matthew and Ethan, dearly loved daughter of the late Dot and Keith Robertson, loved sister and sister-in-law of Brian and the late Lyn Ford, loved aunt and great-aunt of her nieces and nephews.

Thank you to Wards 8A and 8B at Dunedin Hospital and the Otago Community Hospice for the care they gave mum during her recent illness.
