1. James Prentice, aka Jim Prentice, was likely b. c. 1940-1944. His birth place is not yet known, but in later years he lived with his wife in Orange Co., CA.

He m. Dorcas Dianne (Hewelt?), b. 12 Dec 1944, Chicago, Cook Co., IL, and d. 16 Oct 1944 in Orange, Orange Co., CA. Her obituary reads as follows:

Dorcas Dianne Prentice, 69, died April 16 in Orange, CA. Dorcas was born in Chicago, IL December 12, 1944 and lived in Orange, CA for 44 years.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim, her brother Fritz Hewelt III, and her children, Lauren Howell, Landis Seger (Jeremy) , Lindsey Prentice (Sarah) and Liesl Prentice, along with 9 grandchildren.

Dorcas was very adamant about her health and exercise—she enjoyed being outside, swimming and gardening and discovered later in life an interest in running. She enjoyed traveling both in the US and abroad, and particularly found joy in the easygoing, unplanned nature of her trips. At home she worked at Orange Lutheran High School as an accountant and she was an active volunteer with OC Animal Care, fostering kittens, and a part of a catch and release program for strays—her involvement began because many of her family’s pets were adopted from the shelter.

She was a strong person, both physically and emotionally, and was the constant in many lives. She also was strong of faith, being a devout Lutheran all her life. She brought laughter to everyone she met, and brightened the room with her vibrant personality. Once a person met Dorcas, they never forgot her—she had a loud voice and wasn’t afraid to voice her opinion, but she also had a kind heart, and loved and was proud of all her children. She will be missed and her loss will leave a void in our hearts. She was a person who made a difference in so many lives and so many ways.

Service information for April 26th as follows: Visitation will be at Shannon-Bryan Mortuary, Orange from 11am-1pm; Interment at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery at 1:30pm followed by the Funeral Service at St. John's Lutheran Church at 3:00pm.
