1. James Prentice was b. c. 1826, PA, with both parents b. in PA. He appears in the 1850 census in Moon, Allegheny Co., PA, and in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census in Sewickley, Allegheny Co., PA, with his wife and family. In the 1880 census he was a Wagon Maker.

He m. Mary M., b. Oct 1860, PA, with both parents b. in PA. She appears as a widow in the 1910 census in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1920 Pittsburgh census as Mary G. Prentice. 1930 Pittsburgh census as Mary M. Prentice Children per census records:

He m. Sarah in 1880 (per 1900 census). She was b. Dec 1861, Wales, with both parents b. in Wales. Children per census records:

George later appears in the 1910 census in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., PA, as George S. Prentice, b. c. 1871, PA. Minnie Smith is still living with him, but she is now called his sister, b. c. 1859, PA. Also shown in the household are:

George still later appears in the 1920 census in Pittsburgh where Roy A. Woods, above, is the head of the household with George appearing as George D. Prentice and called an Uncle to Roy. Minnie is called a mother-in-law to Roy, seeming to suggest that Minnie is Maud's mother. In the 1930 Pittsburgh census, he is age 59, single, and living alone.

6. Lila M. Prentice, b. May 1875, PA. She appears in the 1900 census in her parent's home with her husband. Not in 1910 or 1920 census.

She m. Samuel T. McDonald. He was b. Feb 1850, PA, with both parents b. in PA.

7. Thomas Victor Prentice, b. 8 Jan 1888, PA, and d. 18 Nov 1951, Los Angeles, CA. He appears at home in Sewickley, PA, in the 1900 census. Not in 1910 or 1920 census. In the 1930 census in Santa Monica, Los Angeles Co., CA.

He m. Ruth Jane Speight. She was b. 16 Dec 1890, NC, and d. 10 Jun 1990, Riverside, CA.

Who are James Prentice's Parents?

The only clue we have so far is based on James appearing in the 1850 census in Moon, Allegheny Co., PA.

A review of 1850 Moon census shows another possible brother, John H. Prentice, b. c. 1814, PA, with his wife and childen:
