Mr. Prentiss, a native Washingtonian, drove for Compton Bus Services, a Port Tobacco-based company that operates 37 school buses for Charles County Public Schools, from 1989 to 1999. He previously drove a truck for a Ford Co. subsidiary in Washington.

He graduated from Anacostia High School and served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He returned to the Washington area after the war and lived in Oxon Hill and Pomfret. He moved to South Florida in 1999 and drove a bus for Coral Springs, Fla., charter schools.

A 2nd obituary with a bit more personal information appears in the 24 Jan 2007 issue of The Miami Herald. It reads as follows:

Frank Prentiss, 70: Bus driver bonded with kids
    BY ANI MARTINEZ, armartinez@MiamiHerald.com

Frank Prentiss was a school bus driver who took his charges to after-school sports events, parked the bus and stayed to watch them play. The Coral Springs Charter School bus driver, called ''Pop-Pop'' by students, died Jan. 19 from heart failure. He was 70.

Prentiss, of Margate, started at the school in 2000, driving students to and from school, to games and other after-school activities. ''He enjoyed his job so much,'' said his wife of 46 years, Barbara Prentiss. ``He went to all the ball games. He wouldn't just sit in the bus, he sat on the sidelines and cheered everyone on.''

Before moving to South Florida in 1990, Prentiss was a truck driver for Remanufactured Auto Parts in Maryland for 22 years. ''He was tired of driving a truck. He had enough,'' Prentiss said. ``It was just too much for him, but he started to drive students. He was so good to those kids.''

His family knew Prentiss as a happy, yet strict father. ''I didn't know it until I grew up, but I had so much respect for my dad,'' said his daughter Theresa Maus of Maryland. ``Once a Marine, always a Marine.''

Prentiss was a corporal in the Marines during the Korean War, serving from 1953 to 1957. His wife said he often joked he was ''the one in charge'' in the house. Prentiss was inspired to join the Marines by family members, and inspired others to join. ''He came from a Navy family, so Frank always wanted to be a Marine,'' said Prentiss. ''He always enforced discipline,'' Maus said. ``I had his first grandson, and when my son got old enough he wanted to be a Marine. The greatest gift I gave my dad was when he watched my son graduate from boot camp.''

Maus has fond childhood memories of spending time as a family. ''We became majorettes and did half-a-mile parades as our parents watched,'' she said. ``We would go to drive-in movies. My mom packed hot dogs and we spent the whole evening together as a family.''

In addition to his wife, Prentiss is survived by his daughters, Patricia Leber of Anchorage, Alaska, Theresa Maus of Chesapeake Beach, Md., Ginger Operle, of Coral Springs, Robin Deyullis of La Plata, Md., Paula Prentiss of Coral Springs, 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 5 p.m. today at the Calvary Chapel, 2101 W. Cypress Creek Rd., Fort Lauderdale. The visitation will be followed by a service at 6 p.m.
