1. Archibald Prentice was b. c. 1841 in Ecosse, Scotland (per 1881 Quebec census). He appears in the 1881 census in Ste. Gabriel, Hochelaga, Quebec, Canada, as a "Machiniste", Presbyterian, with his wife and family. They later appear in the 1911 census in Toronto Centre, Ontario.
He m. Mary, b. c. 1839, Ireland, Catholic. Catholic children per 1881 census:
- William Prentice, b. c. 1860, Quebec, Journalier. Not in 1901 Quebec census.
- Annie Prentice, b. c. 1862, Quebec, Couturiere.
- James Prentice, b. c. 1867, Quebec, Couturiere. Not in 1901 Quebec census.
- Archibald Prentice, b. c. 1868, Quebec. Not in 1901 census. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [2]
- Elizabeth Prentice, b. c. 1871, Quebec. Not in 1901 census.
2. Archibald Prentice, b. c. 1868, Quebec. Not in 1901 census. It is unclear whether he is the Archibald Prentice shown in the 1911 census in East Toronto, York South, Ontario, with his wife, Annia, b. Nov 1863, and children:
- Jean Prentice, b. Jul 1891.
- William Prentice, b. Jan 1894.
- Margaret/Maggie Prentice, b. Nov 1898.
- Archibald Prentice, b. Sep 1901.
- Annia Prentice, b. Dec 1907.
- Jessie Prentice, dau., b. Dec 1907.
Archibald does not appear in the 1901 or 1911 Canada census. In the 1851 Scotland census we find 2 possible families for Archibald:
- He might be the Archibald Prentice, son of James and Mary, b. c. 1842 in Kirknewton, Midlothian, Scotland and in 1851 living in Edinburgh St. Cuthberts, Midlothian, or
- he might be the Archibald Prentice, son of Archibald and Jane, b. c. 1841, Peeblesshire, and in 1851 living in Peebles, Peeblesshire
Neither Archibald appears in the 1861 Scotland census by which time Archibald was living in Quebec, Canada.
