Update of 5 Mar 2005: Mrs. Emily H. Prentice appears in the 1870 census in Cleveland, OH as the wife of C. C. Prentiss, b. c. 1831, OH, and whose occupation is given at "Pork Ag'n." He is probably Chancey Prentiss who appears in the 1860 census in Cleveland. For more on Chancey and Emily, see our Spring 2002 article on Chancey Prentiss of Cleveland, OH .
1. Mrs. Emily H. Prentice was b. Dec 1840 in New Jersey. She appears in the census index as Emil H. Prentice, in the 1900 census in Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., OH, but a microfilm copy of the census record itself shows her as a female and widow. Daughter (per 1900 census):
- Jennie Prentice, b. Oct 1870, OH (per 1900 census)
- Gertrud/Gertrude Prentice, b. c. 1868, OH (per 1870 census)
The only clue we have so far comes from the 1900 census which says that Jennie's father was born in OH. It also identifies the birthplaces of the parents of Jennie's mother, Emily: her father was b. in CT and her mother in NJ.
