Jamison Prentice of Preston, New London Co., CT and MA

Jamison Prentice of Preston, New London Co., CT and Montgomery, Hampden Co., MA
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Summer 2005 and Revised 22 Mar 2005

1. Jamison/Jameson Prentice is a descendant of John-3 and was b. 3 Oct 1741, in Preston, N.L., CT. From, there the facts about him are less certain. We know that some of his kin moved to, and near, Hampden Co., MA.

He may have m. a woman named Dorothy and perhaps c. 1773. We have no firm information whether they had children or, if so, their names. The following listing is only tentative and is based on Montgomery Town Birth Records for parents named Jameson Prentice and his wife, Dorothy:

  1. Hannah Prentice. Born, 27 Nov 1774, in Montgomery, Hampden, MA [91].
  2. Phinehas Prentice. Born, 15 Nov 1776, in Montgomery, Hampden, MA [91]. . . . . [2]
  3. Jonah Prentice. Born, 9 Jan 1779, in Montgomery, Hampden, MA [91].
  4. Elihu Prentice. Born, 2 Aug 1781, in Montgomery, Hampden, MA [91].

2 Phinehas Prentice, b. 15 Nov 1776, in Montgomery, Hampden, MA [91]. There is a Phineas Prentice who appears in the 1800 census in Worthington, Hampshire Co., MA, as the head of a household who appears to be in the age 26-45 age group (b. c. 1855-1874). There is another male in the 16-26 age group (b. c. 1874-1884), 3 daughters in the 0-19 age group, and a woman in the 26-45 age group. It is unclear whether the family is that of this Phinehas Prentice.
