Update of 24 Dec 2006: Henry Prentice is a descendant of Robert Prentice of Illington, Norfolk who appears in our Winter 2006 article. That article now replaces this article.
1. Henry Prentice was b. c. 1854, Kenninghall, Norfolk, England. He appears in the 1901 census with his wife, Mary A., b. c. 1859. In 1918 he lived at Church Cottages, Great Barton, Bury St. Edmund's, Suffolk. In 1891 census in Old Buckenham, Norfolk. Children per 1901 census:
- Henry Prentice, b. c. 1883, Buckenham, Norfolk. At home in 1901.
- William Prentice, b. c. 1885, Buckenham, Norfolk. In 1891 census in Old Buckenham, Norfolk. At home in 1901.
- Charles John Prentice, b. c. 1891, Buckenham, Norfolk. . . . . . . [2]
- Hannah Prentice, b. c. 1893, Buckenham, Norfolk. At home in 1901.
- Eber(?) Prentice, son, b. c. 1895, Buckenham, Norfolk. At home in 1901.
- Emma Prentice, b. c. 1897, Great Barton, Suffolk. At home in 1901.
2. Charles Prentice, b. c. 1891, Buckenham, Norfolk. He appears in WW I death records as a Private, 15th (The King's) Hussars, who d. at age 28 on 8 Aug 1918 where he is identified as the son of Henry Prentice, of Church Cottages, Great Barton, Bury St. Edmund's, Suffolk; husband of Amy Young (formerly Prentice), of 6 Chatteris Rd., New Kent Rd., London. Although the year of birth is different, Henry may be the son of William Prentice who appars in the 1871 Kenninghall, Norfolk, census as an Agricultural Labourer, b. c. 1836, Kenninghall, with his wife, Louisa Catling(?), b. c. 1840, Kensinghall, and children:
- Henry Prentice, b. c. 1862, Kenninghall
- Charles Prentice, b. c. 1864, Kenninghall
- Hannah Prentice, b. c. 1866, Kenninghall
- William Prentice, b. c. 1868, Kenninghall. In 1881 Kenninghall census as a servant in the home of Samuel Hewitt.
- Louisa Prentice, b. c. 1869, Kenninghall
Also living with William's family in 1871 was Charles Catling, b. c. 1851, Kenninghall, and called a brother in law.
Also appearing in the 1871 census in Kenninghall, Norfolk is James Prentice, b. c. 1848, Kenninghall, and his wife, Mary, b. c. 1851, Kenninghall. They do not appear in the 1881 census, but do appear in the 1891 and 1901 census in Kenninghall. Children per 1891 census:
- Charles Prentice, b. c. 1877, Kenninghall, Norfolk. Not home in 1901.
- William Prentice, b. c. 1880, Kenninghall, Norfolk. Not home in 1901.
- John Prentice, b. c. 1882, Kenninghall, Norfolk. Home in 1901.
