Walter Prentice of NY and New Haven, CT
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Spring 2004 and Revised 16 Jul 2006

Update of 13 Jul 2006: Walter Prentice is likely the son of Charles Prentice and grandson of Asher Prentiss of Uxbridge, MA , discussed in our Summer 2003 issue.

1. Walter Prentice was b. Feb 1859 in NY. He appears in the 1900 New Haven, New Haven Ct., CT census with his wife, Helen, b. Nov 1859, CT, and children:
  1. Ruth Prentice, b. May 1892, CT.
  2. Charles C.Prentice, b. Sep 1897, CT. Not in SSDI.

Walter does not appear in the SSDI, IGI or the 1880 census.

Who are Walter Prentice's Parents?

The 1900 census shows his father as b. in NY and his mother as b. in VT.

Although there is a difference in the parent's birth places and althoughfurther investigation is needed for confirmation, Walter might be the Walter Prentis shown in the 1870 census in Arlington, Bennington Co.,VT, b. c. 1849, son of Charles Prentis, b. c. 1826, VT, and Pamelia, b. c. 1828, VT.
