By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr. Editor
Fall 2003 and Revised 18 Aug 2008

1. (Unknown) Prentice was b. c. 1835-42 in Scotland. He may have emigrated to MA in the United States after 1860 as no Prentice b. in Scotland of an appropriate age appears in the 1860 MA census where his children were born beginning in 1863.

He m. Jane. She was b. c. 1842, Scotland (with her father b. in England and mother in Scotland). Curiously, although 4 of their children were born in MA between 1863 and 1869, none of the family appear in the 1870 census. Jane appears, without her husband, in the 1880 Boston, Suffolk Co., MA census with children:

  1. Harriet Prentiss, b. c. 1863, MA.
  2. Emma Prentiss, b. c. 1864, MA.
  3. Annie Prentiss, b. c. 1866, MA.
  4. George Prentiss, b. c. 1869, MA. He does not appear in the 1910 or 1920 census. He may, or may not, be the George F. Prentiss who appears in the 1930 census in Upton, Worcester Co., MA with his wife, May B., b. c. 1873, MA, and son, George E. Prentiss, b. c. 1904, MA.
  5. William Prentiss, b. c. 1872, MA. He does not appear in the 1910 or 1920 census.
