Robert S. Prentice of Lakewood, Cuyahoga Co., OH
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Summer 2004 and Revised 13 Feb 2009

Update of 13 Feb 2009: Robert S. Prentice is #168.1 in our Henry Prentice eBook. That book material now replaces this article.

1. Robert S. Prentice was b. c. 1890 in MN (age 40 in 1930 census) with both parents b. in IL. He appears in the 1930 census in Lakewood, Cuyahoga Co., OH, with his wife and family.

He m. Grace who was b. c. 1891, MN (age 39 in 1930 census) with both parents b. in English Canada. Grace d. c. 3 May 1939 at her home, 2246 Northland ave., Lakewood. Funeral arrangements were handled by he funeral home of F. G. Nickels & Son, 14500 Madison ave. Funeral services Wednesday, May 3, at 2:30 p. m.

Robert and Grace had 1 or more children, including a son:

  1. Robert S. Prentice Jr., b. c. 1917, IL.

Who are Robert S. Prentice's Parents?

We see at least 2 possibilities:

  1. He may be the Robert Prentice shown in the 1900 census in Albert Lea, Freeborn Co., MN as b. Aug 1887, MN, with his father Charles Prentice b. Jan 1862, IL, and mother, Clara S., b. Nov 1861, IL. Although the age varies slightly from the b. c. 1890 date shown in the 1930 census. the IL birth place is a match for the 1930 Robert Prentice's parents.

  2. Another possibility, more speculative, but based on the presence of Georgiana Prentice in the 1930 census in Lakewood, Robert might be a brother to Georgiana and son of George Billings Prentice who is #20.3 in our Thomas Prentice eBook. Our current listing of George's children is based on the 1880 census, and since Robert was apparently b. just after the census was taken, that could account for his not being listed as a son of George. For now, there is no available evidence showing that George Billings Prentice ever had a son named Robert.
