James E. Prentis, Seychelles Islands and Boston, MA

James E. Prentis, Seychelles Islands and Boston, MA
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Spring 2004 and Revised 17 Oct 2004

Update of 17 Oct 2004: Although the 1930 census tells us that James' father was born in Vermont and this mother was born in England, it seems likely that James is the son of Thomas T. Prentice who is #182 in our Stephen-3 eBook. Thomas was b. 17 Jun 1845 in Troy, Oakland Co., MI (per Ancestry.com) and was the U. S. Consul at Martinique when it was destroyed by eruption of Pelee on 8 May 1902.

1. James E. Prentis was b. c. 1875 in the Seychelles Island in the Indian Ocean. He appears in the 1920 Boston, Suffolk Co., MA census with his wife, Gladys K., b. c. 1887, England, and sons:

  1. Thomas T. Prentis, b. 21 Jun 1914, MA and d. Jun 1993, Pelham, Hillsborough Co., NH (per SSDI).
  2. James E. Prentice Jr., b. 12 Sep 1916, MA and d. 28 Nov 2000, Jamaica Plain, Suffolk Co., MA (per SSDI).
  3. Charles F., b. 13 Feb 1929, MA and d. 31 Dec 1997, Boston, Suffolk Co., MA (per SSDI).

Who are James E. Prentis' Parents?

Notwithstanding James' exotic place of birth in the Seychelles Islands, the 1930 census tells us that James' father was born in Vermont and this mother was born in England.
