Lenwood Prentice and Janet Nation are trying to identify the parents and ancestry of Isaac Prentice. We have combined their information with information contained in Bernie Boylan's letter of 8 May 2003. Here is what we have so far:

1. Isaac Prentice was b. 21 Jul 1783 in Sheffield, Berkshire Co., MA (Binney, 1883, 55/56ii) and is a descendant of Henry Prentice of Cambridge, MA. Binney says Isaac d. 10 Jan 1799. However, Bernie Boylan's letter of 8 May 2003 says that Isaac m. and moved to VT. Further investigtion is needed to know when and where Isaac died. In any event, Bernie Boylan also said that Isaac had a son:

1. Isaac Prentice, b. 30 Jan 1803, somewhere in VT. . . . . . . [2]

2. Isaac Prentice was was born 30 Jan 1803 somewhere in Vermont and both of his parents were born in MA (per 1880 Solon, Kent Co., MI census). He was a farmer. We do not know for sure, but it may be that Isaac, his parents and his siblings may have lived for a time in Canada. We know Isaac lived in Canada in 1830 and 1832 from the places of his marriage and birth of his oldest son, Chester. He then returned to Vermont before August, 1834 (see below).

Isaac married Mary/Maria) Martin about 1830 in Canada when he was about 27 years of age. She was born in 1812 in Canada, as were both of her parents (per 1880 census). Children of Isaac and Mary:

1. Chester Prentice, b. 1832, Canada. He does not appear in the 1880 US or 1881 Canadian census.
2. Mary Prentice, b. 14 Aug 1834 in Vermont. . . . . . . . . [3]
3. Fletcher Prentice, b. 1837 in Michigan. Children (per 1880 census):
   1. James W. Prentice, b. c. 1864.
   2. Phillip Prentice, b. c. 1866.
   3. Thomas J. Prentice, b. c. 1868-1870, MO. He appears in the 1910 and 1920 Decatur, Macon Co., IL census as T. J. Prentice with his wife, Minnie B., b. c. 1876, IN, and children
      1. Thomas J. Prentice Jr., b. c. 1909, MO.

9. Amanda Prentice, b. c. 1858. She m. John Darland. He was b. c. 1851, Canada, as were both his parents (per 1880 census, Solon, Kent, MI). Children:
   1. Willett Darland, b. c. 1875, MI

Note: The 1850 Vermont census has an ISAAC PRENTICE, farmer, b. c. 1833 in the State of New York, and living in Milton, Chittenden Co., VT. He did not appear in the 1880 census, either missed or perhaps living in another State. It is unclear if he is a son of the 1803 ISAAC who was apparently living in Michigan in 1850, presumably with all his family.

The 1900 VT census has an ISAAC PRENTICE, b. Sep 1831 in Canada and living in Worcester, Washington Co., VT. His father was also born in Canada and his mother in England. The 1803 ISAAC apparently was living in Canada in 1832 when his son, CHESTER, was born. This ISAAC was born in 1831.

There is a reasonable possibility that the 1831 ISAAC might be a son of the 1803 Isaac since parents often name a son after the father.

3. Mary Prentice, b. 14 Aug 1834 in Vermont. She m. Cyrus Stilwell on 9 Nov 1852. He was b. 14 Feb 1831, Lorain Co., OH. Children (per Bernie Boylan):

1. Alamanda H. Stilwell, b. 31 Aug 1853. She m. L. McClure.
2. Samuel E. Stilwell, b. 5 Sep 1858.
3. Edward E. Stilwell, b. 2 Feb 1861. He m. Eth(?) McCarthy.
4. Byron C. Stilwell, b. 28 Jul 1868.
5. Jennie E. Stilwell, b. 15 Sep 1870.

4 Luther Prentice, b. 18 Jun 1871 and died 31 Jan 1937. , in MO. Census: 1880, in Iola, Allen, KS. Census: 1910, in Iola, Allen, KS. He married Mary Elizabeth, b. 14 Jun 1866 and d. 1 Feb 1937, the day after her husbands death. Census: 1910, in Unk., Allen, KS. Children:

1. Carl H.[4] Prentice. He may be the Carl Prentice shown in the SSDI as b. 24 Sep 1891 and whose last address was Holt, Clay Co., MO. . . . . . . . [7]
2. Lena M. Prentice. Born, 6 Sep 1893 and d. 25 Aug 1957. In KS. Census: 1900, in Unk., Allen, KS. Census: 1910, in Iola, Allen, KS.
3. Loretta P. Prentice. Born, Oct 1896, in KS. Census: 1910, in Unk., Allen, KS. She m. Mr. Combs. Not in 1920 or 1930 census.
4. Mabel R. Prentice. Born, Nov 1899, in KS. Census: 1910, in Unk., Allen, KS. She m. Mr. Belding. She might be the Mabel Belding who appears in the 1930 Henryetta, Okmulgee Co., OK census as b. c. 1900, KS, with her husband, John Belding, b. c. 1892, KS, and children:
   1. James L. Belding, b. c. 1919, KS.
   2. Paul R. Belding, b. c. 1921,KS.
5. Chancee H. Prentice. Born, circa 1904, in KS. Census: 1910, in Unk., Allen, KS. Not in 1930 census.

7. Ralph G. Prentice, b. 1 Feb 1909, Iola, KS, and d. 26 Jun 1990, Liberty, MO. Census: 1910, in Unk., Allen, KS. Not in 1930 census. The Kansas City Star of 7 Dec 1999 has an obituary relating to Ralph Lowell Prentice. He is probably the Ralph Prentice shown in the Soc. Sec. Death Index as b. 1 Feb 1909 and who predeceased his wife. Ralph married Lucile who was b. 27 Jan 1914 in Kearney, MO. She d. 6 Dec 1999 at Liberty, Clay Co., MO at the age of 85. Liberty is just north of Kansas City, MO. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 1999, at Liberty Manor Baptist Church; burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Gladstone, MO. Surviving children are identified in her obituary as:
   • Judie Prentice who m. Mr. Romdall, Kansas City, MO
   • Janet Prentice who m. Wayne Nation of Claycomo, MO
   • Joyce Prentice who m. Don Coonis of Liberty, MO
   
   Lucile's obituary said she had 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

8. Harley Prentice. Died before Aug 1957. Not in 1930 census.

5. Wesley Prentice, b. 1845 in Ohio. He m. Catherine, b. c. 1849. Children (per 1880 Montcalm Co., MI census):

1. Eva Prentice, b. c. 1868, MI.
2. Charles Prentice, b. Oct 1868, MI. He m. Mattie, b. Jul 1867, MI and appears in the 1900 Charlesvoix Co., MI census.
3. Ernest Prentice, b. c. 1873, MI.
4. Claude Prentice, b. c. 1871, MI. Appears, unmarried, in 1900 census in Zeeland, Ottawa, MI.
5. Guy Prentice, b. c. 1876, MI. He is probably the Guy G. Prentice shown in the 1910 Chicago, Cook, IL census who is shown as b. c. 1880, MI with his wife, Ruth, b. c. 1886 in MI.

6. Marvin Obadiah Prentice, b. 12 Jul 1850 in Eaton Co., MI and d. 22 Jun 1928, Alden, Helena Twp., Antrim Co. MI. He m. Sophia E. Kellogg, b. 28 Jul 1849, Pittsfield, OH. Children (per 1880 Montcalm Co., MI census):

1. Elnora/Nora Prentice, b. 6 Oct 1872, MI and d. 1880..
2. Francis Prentice, b. 1873 and d. 1880.
3. Frank Prentice, b. 1874, MI.

Marvin appears, from the 1900 Leelanan Co., MI census and the 1910 and 1920 Antrim Co., MI census, to have married, 2nd, Margaret/Maggie, b. Nov 1861, Canada, and had another daughter:

1. Lila/Lilah B. Prentice, b. Dec 1889, MI. The 1920 Antrim Co. census shows she m. Cecil Parks, but he is not present in the home. Also in the household are Clinton, b. c. 1915, and Nendol(?), both called grandsons of Marvin.

7. Carl H. Prentice (Luther, 2.1). Born, circa 1892, in KS. Census: 1910, in Unk., Allen, KS. Census: 1920, in Iola, Allen, KS. He married Artie R., b. c. 1898, in MO. Census: 1920, in Iola, Allen, KS. Children:

1. Clyde W.[5] Prentice. Born, circa 1918. Census: 1920, in Iola, Allen KS. He may be the Clyde Prentice shown in the SSDI as b. 20 Oct 1917 whose last residence was in Gallatin, Daviess Co., MO.

Marvin is shown in the 1930 census in Kansas City, Jackson Co., MO (both of his parents b. in KS) with his wife, Ruby Myer, b. c. 1913, KS (both of her parents b. in IA), dau. of Nora Myer in whose home they were living in the 1930 census; no father is shown.. The Kansas City Star of 4 Jan 2000 contains an obituary mentioning Marvin Prentice of Lowry City, St. Clair Co., MO whose children are identified as:

1. Loren Lee Prentice, b. c, 1933, Kansas City, MO and d. 1 Jan 2000, at Bridgewood Nursing Home, Kansas City, MO. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. He had been a lineman with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and had served in the Air Force. He m. Susan (surname unknown), later divorced and in 2000 she lived in Grandview, MO. Their children:
   1. Clifford Eugene Prentice, St. Joseph, MO.
   2. Michael Steven Prentice, Kansas City, MO.
   3. Brenda Prentice. She m. Mr. Crouch, Riverside, MO.
   4. Laura Lea Prentice. She m. Mr. Callen, Kansas City, MO.
   5. Carolyn Prentice.
   6. Marvin Cecil Prentice. He d. 1982.
2. Lily Prentice, b. after 1930. She m. Allen Horn, Gladstone, MO.

9. Charles Prentice, b. c. 31 Mar 1876, Solon, Kent Co., MI and d. 28 Jan 1923 in Green River, Antrim Co., MI. Living at home in the 1910 Antrim Co., MI census. He m. Evangeline Narcissis Torrey who was b. 30 Dec 1872 in Alden, RI, the dau. of Samuel A/L Torrey and Sylvia A. Baldwin. She was also m. to Hiram Dwindle/Dowe McPherson. Evangeline d. 29 Nov 1964 in Alba, MI.Children (per Bernie Boylan):

1. Lenwood Franklin Prentice, b. 7 May 1914, Grawn, MI and d. 22 Jan 2002 in Battle Creek, Calhoun Co., MI (per SSDI). He m. Geneva Jean Crandall. She was b. 4 Aug 1924, Grawn, MI and had 2 children from another marriage to Ronald Lee Crossland. Lenwood m. 2nd Ida Margret Young and was living in Grawn, MI in 1983.

10. Margie M. Prentice, b. 1922, Iola, Allen Co., KS. She appears in the 1930 census in North Kansas City, Clay Co., MO. The Kansas City Star obituary of 17 Feb 1993 reports that Margie M. Prentice was b. c. 1922 in Iola, Allen Co., KS and d. 16 Feb 1993 at North Kansas City Hospital. Prior to 188 she lived in Greenwood, AR before returning to the Kansas City area in 1988. She was a Baptist. Margie m. Bill Williams who d. in 1988.

11. Marion Onita Prentice, b. 25 May 1916, Helena Twp., Antrim Co., MI and d. 27 Feb 1984. She m. Lloyd Harley Lockman on 30 Jul 1932. He was b. 28 Jun 1903 and d. 22 Dec 1979. Children:

1. June Arlene Lockman, b. 1 Aug 1930.
2. Marye Lee Lockman, b. 8 Apr 1933, Mancelona.
3. Verna Mae Lockman, b. 29 Ict 1935.
