Kerry Prentice, by email of 1 Apr 2003, brings to our attention the following family which we have augmented with census records:
1. Henry Rhodes Prentis may have been b. c. 1810-1817. He m. Rosana. In 1837 he is called "Proprietor and Iron Founder" and lived on Moulsham St., Chelmsford, Essex. They had 1 or more children, including:
- Eliza Ann Prentis, bap. 23 Jul 1837, Chelmsford, Essex.
- Henry Rhodes Prentis, b. Sep 1845, Chelmsford and d. there Mar 1847 (per St. Catherine's Index)
- Susannah Prentice, chr. 29 Mar 1850, Christ Church, Hoxton, London (per IGI).
- Harry Prentis, b. 18 Jan 1852 and chr. 15 Feb 1852, Christ Church, Hoxton, London (per IGI). Not in 1881 census. Not in 1881 census.
- James Prentice, chr. 22 Nov 1854, Christ Church, Hoxton, London (per IGI).
- Emma Prentis, chr. 29 Mar 1856, Christ Church, Hoxton, London (per IGI).
- Edward Prentis, chr. 11 Aug 1858, Christ Church, Hoxton, London (per IGI). Not in 1881 census.
Henry's residence on Moulsham St. in Chelmsford suggests that perhaps his parents had deep roots in Moulsham which lies in southern Chelmsford. If so, Henry just might be a descendant of Francis Prentice who was b. c. May, 1605 in Felsted, Essex.
Francis Prentice was a weaver of Moulsham in the parish of Chelmsford where he and his wife, Mary (surname unknown) had the following children born between 1626 and 1635, presumably at Moulsham in the Parish of Chelmsford:
- Francis Prentice, bap. Dec 1626.
- Mary/Marie Prentice, bap. Sep 1630.
- John Prentice, bap. Mar 1632 and bur. Dec 1633.
- Stephen/Steven Prentice, bap. 16 Feb 1633/4.
- John Prentice, bap. Mar 1635/6 and bur. Jun 1636.
