Update of 13 Jul 2006: Based on the 1880 Orange, Franklin Co., MA, census identifying the parents of Harry's brother, Forrest, we can be certain that the parents of Harry and Forrest are Francis A. Prentiss, b. c. 1856, MA, and his wife, Alice A., b. c. 1859, VT. Living next to them in the 1880 census are Francis' parents, Gilbert L.(?) Prentiss, b. c. 1825, MA, housepainter, and Alice A., b. c. 1833, MA

Gilbert L. Prentiss is the son of Parley Alanson Prentis of Washington, Berkshire Co., MA and a descendant of Thomas Prentice of Newton, MA.



1. Harry A. Prentice was b. 26 Nov 1887 in MA (per 1920 census). His father was b. in MA and his mother in ???. Harry appears as an unmarried boarder, age 23, in the 1910 census in Worcester, Worcester Co., MA.

He m. Edith, b. c. 1895, MA, as were both of her parents (per 1920 census). Children:

  1. Clifford A. Prentice was b, 22 Apr 1895, MA and d. Oct 1962, Michigan (per 1920 census and SSDI).
  2. Alice M. Prentice was b. c. 1917, MA.

Also living with Harry in the 1920 Worcester census was his brother, Forrest Prentice, b. c. 1878, MA.

None of the above persons appear in the 1900 census, IGI or Ancestry.com.

Who are Harry A. Prentice's Parents?

The birth places of Harry's parents is unclear. The 1900 census shows his father as MA with the birth places of his mother shown as "unknown." However, the 1920 census says that both parents were b. in VT.
