1. Alfred Prentis, b. c. 1848 in Chelmsford, Essex, England, appears in the the 1881 London census as a Compositor with his wife, Emily, b. c. 1851, London. They were then living at 64 Forston St., London. Alfred does not appear in the 1851, 1861 or 1871 Essex census. Alfred later appears in the 1891 census as a "Printer's Compositor" in District 34, Haggerston, Shoreditch, London. Also in the 1891 Shoreditch census. Children appearing in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census:
- HenryHarry Prentis, b. c. 1877, Brixton, London. At home in 1891.
- Alfred E. Prentis, b. c. 1879, London. He might be the Frank Prentis shown in the 1891 and 1901 census, at home, and b. c. 1879, London.
- Ethel M. Prentis, b. 1881, Hoxton, London. At home in 1891 and 1901.
- Daisy Prentis, b. c. 1882, Shoreditch, London. At home in 1901.
- Emily Prentis, b. c. 1884 , Stepney, London.
- Olive Prentis, b. c. 1885, London City (per 1901 census). At home in 1901.
- Dorothy Prentis, b. c. 1890, Haggerston, London. At home in 1901.
Alfred does not appear in the IGI.
Alfred Prentis is shown by the 1851 census to be the son of Henry Prentis, b. c. 1817, Sible Hedingham, Essex, and his wife, Roseanna, b. c. 1817 Broomfield, Essex. Their family is shown in the 1851 census as follows:
