Adam Prentice of Scotland and New York
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Spring 2004 and Revised 22 May 2008

1. Adam Prentice was b. c. 1888, and probably in Scotland. In 1923 he lived at Bellshill, Scotland, which lies perhaps 15 miles ESE of Glasgow and between Coatbridge and Motherwell. .

Adams appears in Ellis Island Records as a passenger aboard the "Cleveland" which sailed from Southampton, England and arrived in New York, USA, on 1 Nov 1923. The original Ship Manifest identifies him as married, but no wife was shown as accompanying him. The Ship Manifest gives his destination as Rochester, NY, but there is no indication who he was to see there.

In the 1930 census, he was age 42, living by himself, unmarried, in Braddock, Allegheny Co., PA.

He does not appear in the IGI or SSDI.

Who are Adam Prentice's Parents?

An Adam Prentice appears in the 1891 and 1901 Wishaw, Cambusnethan Civil Parish, Lanarkshire, census records as b. c. 1888, Wishaw, Lanarkshire, son of George Prentice (b. c. 1849, Wishaw) and Marion (b. c. 1851, Airdroe (per 1891 census) or Motherwell (per 1901 census), Lanarkshire).
