William Prentice of England and Ecuador

William Prentice of England and Ecuador
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Spring 2001 and Revised 14 Jan 2011

We are helping William Prentice in his efforts to trace the ancestry of his great-grandfather, William Prentice. Here is what we have so far:

1. William Prentice was b. c. 1890-1900 in England. At an unknown later date date, before 1920, William emigrated to Guayaquil, Ecuador. By email of 2 Feb 2001 William Prentice relates the following additional information:

My great grandpa went to Ecuador alone , he meet my great grandmother there!, but they didn't get married, he stayed in ecuador a few years but he left as he came alone! My greatgrandma and my granpa and a brother stayed in Ecuador and since then we don't know anything else about my great grandpa!

He was the director of a foreign commercial business with other people, including Adolfo Poppe and Karl Grimmer. William has a photo of his great-grandfather taken in 1920 in which he is identified as "Guillermo Prentice". "Guillermo" is Spanish for "William."

William/Guillermo had at least one son, William's grandfather, was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador as was William's father.

On 1 Feb 2001, William Prentice posted a query on Prenticenet reading, in part, as follows:

I am living in Miami right now, but I am from Ecuador (South America), my grandpa was born there but his father named William came form England if anybody knows something about a William Prentice that went to the City of Guayaquil in Ecuador it will be helpful to find where I came from. My family in Ecuador is the only family with the Prentice last name in Ecuador!
