One of the websites we regularly monitor for Prentice information is the one for Lanarkshire, Scotland. One of the items posted was a listing of religious and/or holiday celebrations unique to Scotland, most of which are not generally known or not generally observed in the United States. Among those listed are:
- Candlemas - February 2nd and a church feast.
- Whitsun - May 15th and named for the white garments worn by candidates for baptism.
- Lammas - August 1st and one of the Scottish Quarter Days - days on which rents were paid and employees hired and fired.
- Martinmas - November 11th and St. Martin's and a church festival day.
- Prenticemas - December 2nd. For a more detailed description, see the Lanarkshire website .
