We are helping Barbara Bartels in efforts to identify Mary "Molly" Prentice who is #17870 in our database. Here is what we have so far:

Who are Mary Prentice's Parents?

By email of 5 Oct 2002, Barbara has suggested that her father is a "Capt. Printus" who was engaged in naval battles in the French and Indian War on the St. Lawrence River. She says that an autobiography of his great-grandson, Samuel Richardson, said that Capt. Printus was in command of several ships. We have no further information about "Capt. Printus," but he may have been born c. 1725-1750. She also suggested he may have been in the British Navy to have been engaged in the French and Indian War.

She also suggested that if Capt. Printus was not a citizen of the New England Colonies before the war, he may have been afterward, as his daughter, Mary, was living in East Granby, Hartford Co., CT after her marriage about 1788-1790. She and her husband moved to Ontario Co., NY, about 1792, and later to Macomb Co., MI.

A posting on Ancestry.com mentions Mary and Elisha and reads, in part, as follows:

Erin - I will contact you directly at your email but thought it would be good to get some of this posted for others. I only found this Samuel, listed with his siblings on a Macomb Co., Michigan, I believe it is a GenWeb site- a good one!, last night, so have had no time to verify. What was stated there tied to much of what I already knew- some dates were different.

From Macomb County Early Pioneers: This Samuel, Samuel Jr. actually, is the son of Samuel Richardson and an unknown Abigail. Sam and Abigail spent their early married years in New Portland, Kennebec Co., Maine. They may have had as many as five children but the three who survived to adulthood are Samuel Jr. (conflicting birthdates), Josiah b. 1805 and Sarah b. 1798. These three siblings married three siblings- children of Elisha Granger b.1768 and Mary "Molly" Printus-Prentice-Prentiss. Sarah married Zarah, Samuel married Susan/Susannah, Josiah married Rhoda. A search on Ancestry World Tree for Elisha Granger b 1768 will take you to a wealth of information. Have fun! Other Elisha Granger children are named Aiden and Phares, unusual names, which tie to the next generation.

The Macomb pioneer biography says the Samuel and Abigail Richardson family moved from Maine to Sodus, Wayne Co., NY in 1814, and then to Chesterfield Twsp, Macomb Co., Michigan by 1830.

The following is my from various records (census, Iowa cemeteries): Samuel Jr. and Susannah moved to Iowa, where they lived out there lives. Susannah is listed on the 1880 Census with her son Josiah in Appanoose Co. I am a descendent of their son Aden b.1827 who married Elvira Lydia Saint Johns, living their married lives in Jackson Co., Iowa. Aden left his wife and four children to fight with the Iowa 24th Infantry in the Civil War. Their son Charles b.1854 married Mary Griswold. They moved to Kingfisher Co., Oklahoma by 1900. Their daughter Ella b.1877 married Leander "Lee" Allen b.1875, moving to the Kansas City, Missouri area by 1903. Ella and Lee's son Charles b.1905 married Matoaka Pressly. Charles and Matoaka moved their family to So Cal soon after Pearl Harbor. I am the daughter of their son Kenneth. Many facts in this paragraph have months of digging behind them. Whew!!!
