1. John R. Prentice was b. Oct 1850 in NY. He appears in the 1880 and 1900 Otsego County, NY census with his wife, Ella A., b. Oct 1852 in NY. Children:
- Nellie M. Prentice, b. c. 1879, NY. She appears living at home in the
1900 Otsego Co. census with her husband, Walter A. Nearing, b. c. Nov 1877, NY and her daughter:
- Beatrice Nearing, b. May 1899, NY.
It seems probable that John is the son of George S. Prentice and his wife, Abigail who are found in the 1860 census in Burlington, Otsego Co., NY. The census listing is as follows:

George S. Prentiss and his wife are the same persons as George L. Prentice, b. c. 1820-21, NY, and his wife, Abigail, b. c. 1822-23, NY, who appear in the earlier 1850 Burlington census with their son, Truman Prentice, b. c. 1848-49, NY.
