2. James Prentice was chr. 18 Aug 1821, Kirklevington, Yorkshire, England, and d. after 1901, perhaps in Jesmond, Northumberland, where he was living in the 1901 census. He appears in the 1861 census in St. Andrew, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland with his wife, Ann, b. c. 1829, Kirklevington, Yorkshire. Children of James and Ann:

  1. James Prentice, b. c. 1855, Gilling, York, England. At home in 1881 in Jesmond, Northumberland. Not in 1891 and later census.
  2. Joseph Prentice, b. c. 1860, Newcastle, Northumberland. He may be the Joseph Prentice who appears in the 1881 census in Nunny Kirk, Northumberland, as an unmarried gardener, and in the 1891 census in Eshott, Northumberland, as an unmarried Lodger.
  3. Sarah Prentice, b. c. 1860, Newcastle, Northumberland.
  4. Mary Prentice, b. c. 1865, Newcastle, Northumberland (per 1901 census) She m. Thomas Robinson, b. c. 1861, Durham, Durham and in the 1901 Jesmond, Northumberland, census they are living with her father, James, then 79 years of age.

He later appears in the 1881 and 1891 census in Jesmond, Northumberland, England as a Domestic Gardner living with his (2nd?) wife, Sarah, b. c. 1832, Newcastle On Tyne. In the 1901 Jesmond census he is a widower, Sarah apparently having died. Children:and children:

  1. Thomas Prentice, b. c. 1868, Newcastle Upon Tyne. At home in 1891. In 1901 census in West Hartlepool, Durham, and called Son in Law, but no wife seems to be shown.
  2. John G. Prentice, b. c. 1871, Newcastle Upon Tyne. At home in 1881. Not in 1891 and later census.
  3. Minnie Prentice, b. c. 1879, Newcastle Upon Tyne. At home in 1891. Not in 1901 census under maiden name. She may, or may not, be Minne Flower, wife of Robert J. Flower (b. c. 1870, Newcastle Upon Tyne) who appears in the Jesmond, Northumberland, census as b. c. 1879 in Newcastle Upon Tyne with their daughter:
    1. Elizabeth Flower, b. c. 1899, St. Pancras, London.
