Charles and his family appear in the 1870 census in New York City, New York, NY. They later appear in the 1880 Baltimore, MD census where he is a Book Keeper. Not in 1900 census.

He m. Sabrah/Sarah E., b. c. 1837 in MA, as were both of her parents. Known children of Charles and his wife are:

1. Robert W/N Prentiss, b. c. 1857, MA. At home in 1880 Not in 1900 census.
2. Abbie/Abigail Anna "Anna" Prentiss, b. c. 1859, MI. At home in 1880
3. Charlotte "Lotta" L. Prentiss, b. c. 1861, NY. At home in 1880.
4. Laura Prentiss, b. c. 1864, NY. At home in 1880
5. Susan Prentiss, b. c. 1865, NY. At home in 1880
6. Augusts "Gussie" Prentiss, b. c. 1867, NY. At home in 1880
7. Alice M. Prentiss, b. c. 1870, NY. At home in 1880

So far as census information goes, Charles:

1. Might be the Charles Prentiss who appears in the 1850 census in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA as b. c. 1830-31, single, Clerk, living in the home of Elizabeth Chessman.
2. He might be the Charles G. Prentice, b. c. 1829, MA who appears in the 1860 census in Somerville, Middlesex Co., MA.
