3. Dr.LEROY R. PENCE , son of Henry and Elizabeth; m. on 25 Oct. 1884, at Mercer Co., Ohio,Alice F. Townsend . They resided in Lima, Ohio.The following is a quote from 'The Ohio Guide', Oxford University Press, 3rd printing 1946:
In Lima was originated an unusual organization known as the Borrowed Time Club, founded in 1931 by Dr. Leroy Pence to promote the social interests of men who had passed their 70th birthday. The club, which has more than 1,300 members, has served as a model for organizations in several other cities. The members, living on 'borrowed time' since they have passed the allotted three score years and ten, meet weekly for discussions and entertainments of various kinds. They are granted special concessions in streetcar fares and in theater admissions.
