1. James H. Prentice, b. c. 1837 in OH, appears in the 1870 Saginaw census with his wife, Maria, b. c. 1846, Canada, and apparent sister, Lotta W. Prentice, b. c. 1854, and in the 1880 Saginaw, Saginaw Co., MI census as a Lumber Inspector with his wife, Mary C.. Mary appears to have been previously married as stepsons John C. Copeland (b. c. 1865, MI) and John R. Copeland (b. c. 1871, MI) are living with them in 1880. Children of James and Mary:

  1. Edward V. Prentice, b. c. 1871, MI. Edward appears in the 1910 Lansing, Ingham Co., MI census, and the 1920 Flint, Genesee Co., MI census with his wife, Grace C., b. c. 1872, MI and children:

He may, or may not, be the same John Prentice who appears in the 1920 census in Ocanto, WI as b. c. 1877, MI, and with his wife, Elizabeth, b. c. 1857, Canada

I have found this to be totally confusing... According to records James H. married a Mary C. Copeland in 1875 with birth dates of 1854 and 1857, James H. in the 1880 census born 1837 and mary C. b act. 1839. If they were married in 1875 then the birth of Edward in 1870 is not right. I also have a marriage of James H. Prentice to Lucy Boswell in Jefferson OH in 1863, which makes sense, 2 children Jennie and John b. 1865 and 1870. James H. is the son of John and Ameransa. But is there another. James H. dies in 1891 and Mary C. Prentice is found in Saginaw as a widow living with other son, George Copeland and wife Sammi. Argh!
